OPEN SHOW: December 2024

DAWN BAILEY (Lampugs)

"Whilst working as a Community Midwife 24 years ago I first met a pug. After a couple of visits I was vowed that my next dog would be a pug. Following the loss of my beloved golden retriever Kayleigh I started to search for a pug. With immense gratitude to Sylvia Smith I found Lammee a small 9 month old pug, within minutes I fell in love. What she lacked in size she made up in personality. Sadly, at the age of thirteen I had to say goodbye to my very special friend and companion who left a hole in my heart and life. After buying Lucy and passing the KC Good Citizen bronze test the examiner asked if I showed her. I didn't but decided to try and took her to a few shows but soon realised she was not a show quality pug. For a big birthday I was blessed with my first show quality pug Winston and he realised my dream to qualify for Crufts. My next dream was to make up a Champion and I was blessed with Hattella 'Tulip' at Lampugs who was top pug bitch in 2019 she has produced me my first generation 'Lampugs Magnolia'. My goal is to award CCs."

SHARON BRIDDON (Briddish)

"We (Robert Hitchcock and I) bought our first Pug in 1998 Ralph, followed by a bitch, Puppy (Penny) both purely pets. We went along to an agricultural show and decided to enter the fun dog show in which we came third, feeling rather chuffed with that we looked on the Internet and found a few open shows close by. Realising quite quickly our pugs wasn't quite good enough for showing. We went to have a look at Kath Hindley's litter, which were from show quality lines and purchased a boy (Yorlanders Charly Boy). Over the years we bred/owned a total of nine champions under the affix of Briditch. Robert and I then went our separate ways. After a couple of years break from showing with my new partner, Rob Fisher, we bred our first litter together, which produce two more champions: Ch Briddish the Gambler JW ShCM (Kenny) and Ch Briddish Callin Baton Rouge JW ShCM (Garth). Garth becoming top dog for two years running 2015/16. Steffie, Garth and Kenny's mum becoming top brood 2015/16. And Briddish becoming top breeders 2015/16."

STEVE MUTUM (Thunderail)

"I have owned pugs since 2011 and was granted the affix Thunderail in 2013. I have enjoyed an active involvement in all areas of the breed, from working with PDWRA, to representing the breed at Discover Dogs and stewarding at both Open and Championship Shows. Until recently I'd held the position of Vice-Chairman for the Pug Dog Club and served on the Committee for over 8 years. During my time in pugs I have bred a number of litters and handled dogs to achieve stud book numbers and crufts qualifications. Preferring to Judge rather than handle, I began judging Pugs in 2016 and Bulldogs in 2018 and have enjoyed my appointments thus far. I am currently involved with owning and exhibiting Smooth Fox Terriers."

MOLLY REID (Bubbapug).

"I have always competed, when I was younger and much more flexible it was horses and then about 25 years ago I met my first pug and was absolutely enchanted by this funny and charming little dog. I got my first pug over 20 years ago now, she was a black and we started doing village fete dog show and later progressing to Open shows, my dream was to one day show at Crufts and when we qualified and I will never forget the thrill of walking on the green carpet for the first time. I spent a lot of time researching pedigrees and got my first proper show dog Tidemill Beryl the Peril at Bubbapug, she was definitely "not novice ride" but taught me so much and really increased my passion and understanding of the breed. I have now achieved JW's and a RDCC with my home bred pugs. I have actively participated in pug showing from exhibiting to stewarding and judging and am always watching and leaming.

When judging it is my responsibility to promote pugs that display the correct breed standards, soundness and type."

CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW: June 2026

LUNDI BLAMEY (Claripugs)

"I started showing in the 1960's with my mother's Chihuahuas under the affix 'Chi'.

Later I found the pug, and have never looked back. I have been in the pug world for more than 40 years. I have been the Vice president, and I am an Honorary life member of the South African Pug Club. Currently I am the president of the Canadian Pug Club and a member of the Pug Dog Club (UK). In Canada, I chair the breed standard and work closely with the Canadian Kennel club regarding the Pug ROE (Rules of Eligibility) for the Canadian Ministry of Agriculture. I also work with the Canadian Kennel Clubs Brachycephalic committee. I breed both black and fawn pugs; my oldest pug is Claripugs Black Tai at Dimrost who is almost 15 years old. I have bred several champions including Int.Ch. Claripugs Raffaele (Champion in 7 European countries) Gnd. Ch. Claripugs Celtic Lore (Top Pug Puppy in Canada for2017) and Gnd. Ch. Claripugs Mathematics (Top pug in Australia). Finally, I hold hands-on seminars in Canada to educate judges about the pug breed standard and regularly hold a booth at the Pet Expo's in Toronto to educate the public about the pug."

ALISON MOUNT (Pollywops)

"I fell in love with pugs and had my first in 1960. Pug was not the best show dog and put his tail down when he saw a show lead but I adored him and learnt so much about the breed from then on, thanks to many top breeders who alas are no longerwith us. Much later on, I bred several champions and have shown dogs for friends and campaigned them to their titles. For a long period, I volunteered for PDWRA rehoming pugs. I have served on the committee of the Pug Dog Club several times and am proud to be a Vice President and enjoy editing the PDC Bulletin. I have awarded CC's in the UK on many occasions and am on the KC assessors list for the breed. I have taken part in seminars for the training of judges and was proud to judge pugs at Crufts in 2012 and have been very fortunate in being invited to judge in many European countries, Russia, America and Australia. To me, they are just wonderful and always will be. Their health, welfare and character is close to my heart and I should hate their appearance to change.

JANE PARADISE (Shardlow)

"I started judging dôgs in 1992, having shown them since 1980 and over the years have owned a diverse mixture of breeds in the Working, Pastoral, Utility and Toy Groups, ranging from Irish Wolfhounds to Japanese Chins. I am currently passed to award CC in 26 breeds plus the Utility Group and have judged three breeds at Crufts with further appointment in 2024 and 2025. Aside from judging and showing I have trained some of my dogs to their Good Citizen Dog Scheme Bronze awards, including a Pekingese. Our Australian Cattle dog has just passed her Silver GD award and completed her Bronze Sniffer Dog Training. My foundation Pug came from Michael Quinney - Adoram Dark Pearl Among Shardlow ShCM and she produced two natural birth litters. I also bred from one of her daughters. Pearl's son,

Shardlow Midnight Cowboy, has made his mark as a black sire. I never had the pleasure of owning a fawn, mine were all mad as hatters blacks! I judged bitches at the Pug Dog Club open show in 2019 and awarded my first CC in them at Bath in 2021, and am invited for Boston in 2024. It would be a great honour if chosen to judge at the parent Club Championship show."

ANDREAS SCHEMEL (Bentwood).

CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW: August 2026

TOM MATHER (Barklots)

No information submitted.

CATHARINE PHELPS (Bilohka)

"I have been involved with Dogs all my life. I started handling my late Mother's Cockers when I was 6yrs old. In 1983 I was lucky enough to own my first Pug "Leighcourt Lora Pogle" shown lightly with moderate success. Ive kept Pugs for 40yrs & since 2016 I have made up 4 Champions, 2 of which are homebred Champion Bilohka Bang Tidy JW & Champion Bilohka Little Spitfire, the latter being WELKS group winner 2019. I had the honour of awarding my 1st set of Tickets at SCCA this year, a special show as I've made up 2 Champions there. My Pugs are my life & family."

SONIA SAXON (Bagibeli)

"I bought my first pug from Brenda Banbury (Flocktons) in 1972 and went on to successfully breeding and exhibiting pugs under the Danjac affix. Sneezwort Black Knight and Champion Knight in Ernest At Danjac were amongst the two most successful. I awarded my first set of CCs in pugs in 2004 and to date have awarded 6 sets of CCs. I am on the mentor list for Pugs and have recently been co-opted onto the Pug Dog Club Committee. I moved into Bulldogs in the 1989, the Danjac Affix had expired so my husband and I chose the affix Bagibeli which I began to regret when it appeared below my name when judging! To date I have bred 3 Champions and Ch Bagibeli Queen of Hearts was top winning bitch in 2017. I awarded my first set of CCs in Bulldogs in 2010 and have now given 6 sets of CCs. I am on the Judging & PR sub-committees of the Bulldog Breed Council and teach on seminars.

Pugs remain my first breed and I enjoy judging them enormously and I firmly believe health of the breed has improved. Thank you for considering me for this prestigious appointment."

REBECCA VINER nee Naylor (Goodchance).

"I bred and showed the Goodchance Pugs winning many titles in the breed, KCJO/KC and junior handling ring. I grew up with pugs from a young age through my grandparents, Ellen and Arthur Brown (Ellen is the author of The Complete Pug). I first judged Pugs at Championship Show level 23 years ago. Over the years, I have attended and helped organise many seminars.

I served on many committees including: the Pug Dog Club for 3 years; The United Kingdom Toy Dog Championship Show for 18 years with many roles including Chief Steward; and South Eastern Counties Toy Dog Society for 12 years as the Pug representative, Show Manager and Secretary. At the time, I was the youngest person ever to become a member of the Kennel Club at the age of 22. I stewarded and was ring steward at many Championship shows including Crufts. Having twins and a son 2 years older, took me away from the show ring but I have maintained my interest in the breed."
